BATKHELA: Senior journalist Tahir Khan Azikhel, known for championing the cause of the oppressed and underprivileged, was remembered with reverence at a condolence reference marking his fortieth-day commemoration here on Thursday.

The event, held in Malakand, highlighted Azikhel’s efforts to raise societal concerns through print, electronic and social media. The speakers praised his compassion and assistance to the vulnerable, emphasising his legacy as a fearless journalist and advocate for justice.

The reference was presided over by Colonel (retd) Abrar Hussain Yusufzai, with Rab Nawaz Saghar, Malakand Press Club president, senior journalist Muhammad Rasool Rasa, and Gohar Ali Gohar among the hosts. Tahir Khan Azikhel’s son, Mudassir Tahir Azikhel, and brother, Inspector Falak Naz, welcomed the attendees.

Prominent figures from political, social, and literary circles paid tribute, including Colonel (retd) Fareedun Khan, Dr Iqbal Shakir, Rashid Khan and Fazal Mabood Saeem. Local poet Akram Shabab also shared a heartfelt ode to the late journalist.

The speakers lauded Azikhel’s dedication to his profession, particularly his courageous reporting in representing Malakand’s Allah Dhand Dheri village during challenging times. They acknowledged his invaluable contributions to journalism and his enduring legacy.Following the event, journalists and dignitaries visited Azikhel’s grave, laid floral wreaths and offered prayers.
