Latif Afridi, Akram Lala remembered for their commitment to human rights, social justice
Speakers at a condolence reference organized by the National Democratic Movement (NDM) on Thursday paid tribute to the movement’s founding leader, Abdul Latif Afridi, and progressive politician Akram Shah Lala on the occasion of their second death anniversary.
Addressing the gathering at the Karachi Press Club, NDM Chairman and former MNA Mohsin Dawar honoured the late Afridi and Shah for their unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, and social justice.
“Afridi devoted his life to fighting injustice,” Dawar said. “He fearlessly opposed the dictatorship of General Pervez Musharraf and stood against oppressive state policies.” He praised the two leaders for their tireless advocacy for the rights of oppressed and marginalized communities, which formed the cornerstone of their progressive politics.
NDM General Secretary Muzammil Shah urged participants to draw inspiration from the leaders’ sacrifices and renew their commitment to advancing their mission of justice and equality. Other speakers included Awami Workers Party Karachi President Shafiq Sheikh, Pakhtunkhwa National Awami Party Provincial President Sadiq Agha, ANP senior leader Rana Gul Afridi, and senior lawyers Farooq Mehtab and Naeem Gul, NDM Sindh president Haji Muhammad Sher, other leaders Kawish Anjum and othe also spoke to the conference and highlighted the invaluable contributions of the leaders and vowed to carry forward their vision.
