PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders wanted to secure an NRO but the federal government would not grant their wish.

Talking to reporters here, he accused the PTI leaders of hypocrisy and incompetence. He added that those who once spoke against certain political leaders were now portraying them as saviors.

The governor said that PTI leaders were now pleading for relief through an NRO, adding that they would not get one.Kundi accused the provincial government of being unable to deliver on its pledges and provide relief to the people. “They can’t even open a road in Kurram,” he said, adding that no progress could be achieved on the issue of Kurram without federal and military support.

On the topic of security, the governor said that discussions during a recent meeting with the army chief included that no compromise would be made on the restoration of peace in the province.

“The National Action Plan’s implementation was a key focus, and we’ve been assured that the province’s security is a priority,” he added.Regarding the May 9 events, Governor Kundi questioned how those involved in such incidents could now advocate for peace. “The province’s peace cannot be entrusted to a party that once spread chaos,” he remarked, stressing that all political parties in KP were united on the issue of maintaining stability.

The governor also criticized the provincial government for financial mismanagement, questioning the use of funds allocated under the NFC Award. “Where have the Rs520 billion gone? The police are unpaid, class-IV jobs are being sold, and corruption is rampant. Their only agenda is plunder,” he stated.

Governor Kundi assured that the provincial government would continue fighting for its fair share of resources from the federal government. He called for accountability, questioning the use of official resources by the PTI for its political rallies. He called for reforms to address critical issues being faced by the province.“All stakeholders must prioritize the province’s stability and progress. We remain committed to ensuring peace and good governance,” he added.
