Elders ask govt to stop work on Khwangi Road
BARA: The members of the Akakhel tribe on Monday asked the government to stop construction work on Khawangi Road as it would cause a major conflict between the Sherkhel and Akhurwal tribes in the area.
Speaking at a press conference, the elders, including Akram Khan, Jamil Khan, Muhammad Janan, Zar Wali Khan and others of Sherkhel of Akakhel said that Akhurwal tribe of Adamkhel tribe were constructing a road in the mountains owned by the Akakhel Sherkhel people.
They alleged that it was tantamount to seizing the lands and minerals of the Akakhel people. The elders added that the Khawangi mountains were the property of the Akakhel Sherkhel people and the government must take the Sherkhel tribe into confidence before starting the construction work.
“We will not allow this controversial work to happen under any circumstances,” Muhammad Janan said, adding that if the work was not stopped then they would halt it forcibly. He asked the government to stay away from unilateral action because it would cause a major clash between the two tribes. The Akakhel Sherkhel elders appealed to the authorities to take immediate action to prevent the impending clash between the two tribes.
