Just a day after a speeding dumper claimed the lives of two men on Hub River Road, another accident involving a water tanker claimed the lives of two motorcyclists on Shaheed-e-Millat Road on Friday.

The incident occurred when a water tanker crushed a motorcycle, killing two individuals and injuring another. The victims were transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The deceased were identified as Syed Noman, 57, son of Syed Maroob, and Israr, 49, son of Yasin, while the injured man, approximately 30 years old, had yet to be identified.

Eyewitnesses, outraged by the accident, set the water tanker ablaze. The driver of the tanker fled the scene. According to police, the collision occurred when a vehicle struck the motorcyclists, and the water tanker following behind hit two motorcycles.

The accident happened on the track leading from Shaheed-e-Millat Road to Baloch Colony. The police confirmed that two individuals riding one motorcycle were killed, while a person on the second motorcycle was injured. The driver fled the scene, though the tanker was later impounded by authorities.

According to police reports, in the first ten days of this year, 22 people have lost their lives, and 261 others had been injured in traffic accidents across Karachi. Last year, Karachi recorded 773 fatalities due to road traffic accidents, including 602 men, 88 women, 62 boys, and 21 girls. A staggering 8,111 people sustained injuries in such incidents during 2024.

Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori expressed grave concern over the increasing fatalities caused by water tankers in Karachi. Reacting to the Shaheed-e-Millat Road tragedy, he termed the situation alarming and demanded a detailed report from the Inspector General of Sindh Police. The governor called for immediate measures to prevent such incidents and urged authorities to ensure stricter regulation of heavy vehicles on city roads.
