BIEK chairman assures JI delegation of complete scrutiny of exam results
Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Chairman Ameer Hussain Qadri on Thursday assured a delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) that the board would ensure a thorough and complete scrutiny of the first-year intermediate pre-medical and pre-engineering results.
The assurance comes after a controversy arose when 67 per cent of candidates were declared failed in one or more papers. This incident had sparked concerns, particularly as a similar issue occurred last year, when a technical glitch in a scanning machine led to a large number of students being wrongly declared unsuccessful.
A JI delegation, led by Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mohammad Farooq, met with the chairman at his office to express their concerns. The delegation emphasised that such errors had caused significant distress, grief, and anger among the affected students and their families, jeopardising their future prospects.
The JI members also pointed out the significant discrepancies between the results of the BIEK and those of other boards in the province, which raised doubts about the board's assessment mechanism. The delegation called for an immediate resolution to clarify the situation and alleviate the unrest.
In response, Qadri assured the delegation that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure a comprehensive review of the cases referred to the board’s designated committee. The meeting was attended by BIEK Controller of Examinations Rubina Rashid, JI Public Aid Committee Education Cell head Ibnul Hassan Hashmi, City Council member for education Taimour, National Association for Education head Pervez Ahmed, and JI Karachi Senior Deputy Secretary of Information Sohaib Ahmed.
