BRT expansion on key routes proposed to ease traffic

PESHAWAR: A proposal to extend the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to Khyber Road and Warsak Road has been finalised to tackle traffic congestion in the provincial capital, with recommendations set to be submitted to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

The proposed expansion is expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce pressure on surrounding roads. The decision was taken during a meeting of the special committee formed under the directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to address traffic challenges in the provincial capital.

Chaired by Minister for Excise Khaliqur Rehman and Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud, the committee also suggested extending the BRT service from Ring Road to GT Road and Kohat Road.

Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud highlighted the initiative’s significance, stating, “The proposed expansion of BRT will not only enhance connectivity but also alleviate the burden on heavily congested roads, ensuring smoother travel for residents.”

Officials emphasized that the implementation of these recommendations, pending government approval, would bring much-needed relief to commuters and contribute to the city’s broader traffic management strategy.
