ISLAMABAD: The Syrian Embassy in Islamabad has adopted the new rebel flag following the regime change back in Syria.
The new flag fluttering over the embassy indicates shifting of loyalty by the mission in Pakistan to new administration in Syria.
The embassy’s decision to hoist the rebel flag symbolises a new chapter for Syria, reflecting the recent political upheaval and the shift in power dynamics within the Arab Republic. This shift to new national symbols marks a decisive break from the Assad family’s 50-year rule and the legacy of Arab unity embodied by the previous flag.
The rebel flag consists of green, representing hope and independence, white symbolising peace and a bright future while black is denoting the hardships endured by Syrians. Three red stars are signifying the ideals of the Syrian revolution. This design differs from the previous Syrian flag, which featured two green stars symbolising the union of Syria and Egypt under the United Arab Republic. The regime change and the adoption of the new flag have sparked celebrations across the Syrian diaspora. In cities like Berlin, Istanbul and Athens, crowds gathered to wave the new flag and show their support for the rebels’ vision of a transformed Syria. The flag change at the Syrian embassy in Islamabad serves as a clear indication of the country’s shifting political identity.
Meanwhile, sources in the Foreign Office told The News that the communication between Islamabad and Damascus has been restored and working in normal course. The reports received from Damascus speak of swift return to normality across the country, especially in the Syrian capital.
