The Sindh government has decided to complete the construction of 40 bus stops for the Peoples Bus Service within two months and mandate modern scientific fitness checks for vehicles across the province.
A meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was held in Karachi on Saturday to discuss transport affairs. Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Peoples Bus Service Project Director Sohaib Shafiq and others attended the meeting.
The transport minister said 100 stops for the Peoples Bus Service had been completed and the remaining stops should be completed as soon as possible.
He added that the remaining 40 bus stops should be completed within two months by the end of January 2025.
He said the Sindh government was committed to making the transport system modern. Latest bus stops of the Peoples Bus Service were crucial for ensuring modern, efficient and sustainable mobility, he remarked, adding that the bus stops would offer passengers comfortable seating and protection from the weather.
Memon was informed that work on two of the remaining stops had been completed, and efforts were under way to complete the remaining stops as soon as possible.
He stressed the fact that ensuring the fitness of vehicles was essential for road safety and environmental protection. Regular fitness checks were crucial for preventing accidents and reducing harmful emissions, he asserted.
He directed the transport secretary to take necessary and stringent measures to ensure proper fitness checking of vehicles.
