GCU mushaira highlights social issues
LAHORE:Distinguished poets highlighted various social issues through their humorous poetry in unique styles at the Urdu Mazahiya Mushaira held at Government College University (GCU) here on Thursday.
Organised under the auspices of GCU Urdu Majlis, the event was conducted in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Youth Development Centre and the University of Home Economics. The Mushaira was chaired by renowned poet Zahid Fakhri, with notable poets, including Dr Saeed Iqbal Saidi, Dr Tahir Shaheer, Idris Qureshi, Shabbir Hussain Butt, Dr Ashfaq, Dr Fakhr Abbas, Ahmad Saeed, Murli Chauhan, Ali Dar, Abid Mahmood Abid, and Dr Atiq Anwar also gracing the event.
Zahid Fakhri emphasised the significance of such events, stating that poetry sessions are an excellent means of promoting literature and culture. GCU Urdu Department Chairperson Prof Dr Saima Arum remarked that such events are incredibly beneficial in offering relief from social issues and challenges.
At the conclusion of the event, the organiser, Dr Farzana Riaz, paid tribute to the poets, stating, 'This evening is dedicated to the literary stars who have elevated humour through their writings.'
