The emergence of the Indian Premier League (IPL) acted as a trailblazer for a myriad other smaller leagues with big ambitions. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is one of the products that has shown promise, monetarily speaking. But the PSL has proven to be detrimental to our cricketing talent. It is aptly relegated to the term ‘festival cricket’, where there is more pomp and show rather than quality cricket. The PCB appears to carefully examine the promising youngsters in the league for inclusion in the national team.
Once on the roster, the player who blew wickets apart and created a rain of sixes in the PSL, often fails to deliver on the international level. These same players also obtain high salaries by way of the leagues and are getting rich without performances that deserve a high reward. I think the PCB needs to end this league once and for all. This will close the chapter on subpar talent, unreasonably high incomes for players, and the fake drama that makes the PSL stand out. Other means of testing and creating talent would be more beneficial.
