KE willing to refund Rs0.27/unit to consumers under Oct FCA
Adjustment, which is called monthly fuel charges adjustment is for month of October, amount to Rs461m
ISLAMABAD: Karachi-Electric (KE), Pakistan’s largest private utility, has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), willing to refund Rs0.27 per unit to consumers in their March bills as it charged higher from power consumers in their October bills.
This adjustment, which is called monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA), is for the month of October. This will amount to Rs461 million. This follows a similar offer in September, when the utility pledged Rs0.16 per unit in refunds in February bills.
A public hearing on December 5, 2024 by Nepra will scrutinize K-Electric’s claims. Central to the discussion will be whether the proposed FCA aligns with regulatory frameworks and if the utility adhered to the merit order in sourcing power — whether through its own plants or external suppliers.
