SCCI says political unrest damaging economy
PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Monday expressed grave concern over the prevailing ‘slow-down’ in economic and trade activities due to the current political unrest and said that it would damage the economy and businesses.
In a joint statement issued by SCCI President Fazal Moqeem Khan, Senior Vice President Abdul Jalil Jan and Vice President Shehryar Khan said a complete lockdown situation prevailed due to political protests/sit-ins that had halted business and trade activities throughout the country.
On the other hand, they said, online business had also suffered due to the slow-down of internet services. The SCCI office-bearers said business, trade and exports had already declined in the prevailing situations and protests would paralyzed them, which was not in the best interest of the people and the country. They asserted that the government and relevant institutions must sort out solutions to all issues through peace and table talks, because turbulence and anarchy were unaffordable for the country.
