Punjab University athletes excel in PM University Sports Olympiad
LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) secured first position overall in Olympiad in women’s disciplines and second position overall in men’s disciplines in the Prime Minister’s University Sports Olympiad held at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
PU teams participated in athletics, swimming, table tennis, hockey, badminton and wrestling. Chairman Prime Minister Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and DG sports Javed Ali Memon, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali were the guests of honour at the prize distribution ceremony.
PU’s women badminton team secured 1st position while men’s athletics team secured 2nd position winning 4 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals. Two athletes of PU set new records. Usama Hassan created a new record in 800m and Ali Adnan set a new record in Pole Vault.
Samiullah was declared the best athlete of the championship with two gold medals and one silver medal. PU women’s athletics team secured 2nd position including 2 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals.
