Nael gets off to a winning start in junior tennis

ISLAMABAD: Ahmed Nael Qureshi progressed to the next round in the ITF Pakistan J30 World Junior Tennis Championships beating Thai opponent in straight sets here at the PTF Tennis Complex Tuesday.

Nael got the better of Pudit Phapatsirikul 6-3, 6-2. As many as 47 junior players from around the globe, including 28 boys and 19 girls from countries such as Hong Kong, Japan, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Canada, Korea, Germany, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Maldives, and Singapore alongside locals are competing in the event.

Bilal Asim also secured a win against Abdul Baasith Cadre of Sri Lanka to qualify for the second round. Additionally, Ehtesham Humayun of Pakistan overcame Louis Eliah Kense of Germany to advance to the next round.

Results: Boys’ singles first round: Ahmed Nael Qureshi (PAK) bt Pudit Phapatsirikul (THA) 6-3, 6-2; Bilal Asim (PAK) bt Abdul Baasith Cader (SRI) 6-0, 6-0; Ahtesham Humayun (PAK) bt Louis Eliah Kense (GER) 7-6, (4), 6-3.

Girls’ singles 1st round: Karolina Ligai (KAZ) bt Paweenon Nualsri ( THA) 7-6, (5), 6-4; So Yuna (KOR) bt Srimul (THA) 6-1, 6-2; Aara Aasaal Azim (MD) bt Jingke Yan(KOR) 6-2, 6-4; Hayoon Kim( KOR) bt Leyla Esther (GER) 6-4, 6-3;Yeon Joo Cha(KOR) bt Tanisha Kantam (SGP) 6-2, 6-3; A Hyun Jo (KOR) bt Tadakew (THA) 6-2, 6-0; Chaerin Lee (KOR) bt Hinata Wada (JPN) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
