Three-year-old Abdullah will be handed over to his grandmother who is due to arrive in the city from Mansehra over the next few days.

After pictures of Abdullah made the rounds on television, Haleema’s grandmother and sister contacted the Edhi Centre and would soon be in the city to take custody of the child.

This piece of positive news came on a day when the wife of the man suspected to have murdered Abdullah’s mother was taken into custody from Mehmoodabad, by officials of the Frere police station.

The woman, Sonia, informed the police that her husband, Rizwan Ayaz Khan, was still in the city but had fled the house after she refused to leave with him.

According to police, Sonia informed them that Rizwan had developed a close friendship with deceased Haleema who had stayed at their house before he moved her to an apartment in Delhi Colony.

Haleema’s three-year-old son, Abdullah, who was brought to the Edhi Centre on May 25, by the prime suspect, would be handed over to his grandmother who had left their house in Mansehra for Karachi on Thursday.

The decomposed body of the twenty-five-year-old Haleema was found from almost a week after she was reportedly murdered. She was identified by a man claiming to be her brother, at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Wednesday.

The mother and the boy were reported to have moved into the Delhi Colony apartment 15 days ago.

According to the medico-legal-officer of the JPMC, the body was completely decomposed and the cause of her death could only be confirmed after the post-mortem report was released.
