PESHAWAR: Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, has decided to safeguard the old provincial assembly building by designating it as a historical heritage site.

Acting Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Syed Waqar Shah, made the announcement during a workshop aimed at enhancing the skills of journalists in the press gallery.

The assembly has reached out to the Department of Archaeology to initiate this process. Plans are underway to restore the building to its original condition, displaying photographs of former chief ministers, speakers,

and prominent parliamentarians, alongside documenting the assembly’s complete history.

The workshop included presentations from acting Secretary Syed Waqar Shah and Assistant Secretary Saifullah Khan, who briefed journalists on the constitution, assembly rules of

business, and parliamentary reporting.

President of the Press Gallery, Gulzar Khan, expressed gratitude to the speaker and assembly secretariat for arranging the workshop and hoped

for similar initiatives in the future.

Highlighting the critical role of the media as the “fourth pillar of the state,” Waqar Shah said more seminars would be conducted to enhance the capabilities of assembly members, secretariat staff and journalists associated with parliamentary reporting.
