ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its judgment delivered on September 30 on the formation of Election Tribunals in Punjab for hearing the 2024 election disputes.
The review petition was filed by Barrister Salman Akram Raja under Article 188 of the Constitution against the judgment passed on September 30 on the appeal of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The party prayed the apex court to review and recall the judgment under review dated September 30, 2024, as well as the order dated July 4, 2024. The court was further requested to hold that consultation meetings between the current Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan cannot be used as a reason to suspend the nominations of Election Tribunals wide letter No 536-T Cord dated April 4, 2024.
It further asked the court to conclusively hold and declare that the exclusive authority to allocate election petitions to Election Tribunals resides solely with the Chief Justice of relevant High Court.
