Bara Siyasi Ittihad concerned over Tirah valley situation
PESHAWAR: Bara Siyasi Ittihad has expressed concern over the current law and order situation in the Tirah valley of the Khyber tribal district.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club president of the Ittihad , Shireen Afridi, and other members talked of the problems faced by the people of Tirah. He said due to deteriorating security conditions, residents previously had to relocate for safety.
“Many returned home and began the rehabilitation process. However, the promises made with them after return were not fulfilled,” said Shireen, adding the returnees had been deprived of compensation for their destroyed homes.
Shereen Afridi said that the residents of Tirah had been facing difficulties due to the security checkpoints and constant raids on their homes. He said that despite their patience, the situation has not improved. He claimed that the Khyber district, particularly Tirah, was once again affected by terrorism and instability despite various ongoing military actions.
These operations forced the local population to consider relocating once again, he said, adding that shelling and attacks had resulted in injuries to innocent civilians. He criticized the government for conducting raids on homes without warrants, violating the sanctity of residences and subjecting innocent people to torture.
Shireen Afridi said unannounced operations in Tirah were once again compelling residents to think about displacement. However, he stated that tribes would not leave their land under any circumstances. The Bara Siyasi Ittihad chief urged the provincial government to cease the ongoing operations in Tirah and should resign if it could not provide rights to the people.
