97pc funds to be spent on ongoing projects
ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council (NEC) on Monday approved only three percent of new development projects while 97 percent resources would be utilised for ongoing development schemes in the upcoming budget 2016-17.
According to the presentation given to the NEC, the government has decided to establish model police stations in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) under the police reforms.The major initiatives to be undertaken by the government in the upcoming budget will be the establishment of a Gas Infrastructure Development Fund with Rs20 billion, the establishment of a National Institute of Human Rights in Islamabad, the Expo-Centre Islamabad, construction of State Guest House, Islamabad, establishment of Citrus Development Board, Centre of Excellence in Mathematics at PIEAS, Islamabad and the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Islamabad.
In the health sector, the government will undertake new initiatives such as the establishment of the Centre for Haematology Disorders at Pims, Islamabad, establishment of Unit forIslamabad, establishment of Unit for Shredding, Sterilisation and Disposal of Medical Waste at Pims, Islamabad and provision of Equipment for four PAEC Cancer Hospitals (Bahawalpur, Lahore and Karachi).
In education sector, the government will undertake National Education Reform Initiative, PhD scholarship programme under Pak-US Knowledge Corridor (Phase-1), establishment of University of Central Asia and Pakistan (UCAP) (Phase-I), Islamabad, establishment of Women University Campus in Swat, Pishin and Khuzdar, upgradation of Bannu University of Science and Technology Lakki Marwat campus to a full-fledged university, provision of academic block at Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak, IT Industrial Innovation Research Centre and strengthening of Islamia College University, Peshawar, establishment of sub campus of University of Balochistan in Zhob, Agriculture College at Dera Murad Jamali, Naseerabad, Centre of Excellence for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, establishment of technical and medical colleges in Gilgit and establishment of a Federal University in Hyderabad in financial year 2016-17.
