Unjust punishment

This letter refers to the news reports ‘ICT administration nabs eight shopkeepers for violating official price list’ (October 14, 2024). Not complying with official prices is not a heinous crime that justifies arrest and jail on the spot. It is true that the prices of vegetables have increased faster than inflation, but this is not due to vendors who are at the end of the long supply chain.

The conversion of agricultural land into housing colonies should be stopped forthwith. Otherwise, we will soon have to import vegetables as well.
