PESHAWAR: A senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Tuesday his party would go all-out to block the way of the constitutional amendments to ensure the supremacy of the constitution and sovereignty of the parliament.
“We will block the way of the constitutional amendments and go all the way for the supremacy of the Constitution, independence of the judiciary and the rights of the people,” said Member National Assembly Assad Qaiser while speaking at a press conference.
Assad Qaiser was flanked by KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and Muhammad Ali Durrani, a former federal minister.He termed the siege of the KP House in Islamabad and alleged insult to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur an attack on the Constitution and a plot to disintegrate the country.
Assad Qaiser said the PTI was being pushed to the wall and effort was made to dismember the country.Defending the party stance on the proposed amendments to the constitution, he said these changes would deface the constitution.
“The government is trying to end the civil liberties through these amendments,” said the PTI leader from Swabi who has served as National Assembly and KP Assembly speaker in the past.Assad Qaiser said the PTI stood for a sovereign parliament and the empowered masses.
He was critical of the ban on the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) and called for talks to resolve the issues.“We also expect that Manzoor Pashteen will arrange the Jirga under the banner of the Pakistani flag. The PTI is having a consultation on whether to attend the PTM Jirga or not,” said Assad Qaiser.KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said Assad Qaiser and Muhammad Ali Durrani had come to the provincial assembly to express solidarity with us.
