CHARSADDA: Awami National Party (ANP) President and Senator Aimal Wali Khan on Friday reaffirmed his party’s commitment to supporting any legislation that upheld the supremacy of parliament.
Speaking to the media in Shabqadar tehsil, he said the ANP had a long history of advocating for parliamentary democracy and democratic traditions.Aimal Wali underscored the importance of an independent judiciary, stating that it was a fundamental pillar of the state that must be preserved at all costs.
However, he said the Supreme Court in the past had supported the imposition of martial law in the country, which was a “dark chapter” of our history.Expressing concern over the resurgence of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ANP chief blamed a curtain political party that, according to him, harbored extremist ideology.
“Today, we face the unfortunate reality of 40,000 militants living within our borders, contributing to the rising wave of terrorism,” he said. He went on to claim that half of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was under the control of terrorists, with Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions entirely overrun by militant groups. “This is clear evidence that once again, our province is being turned into a powder keg,” he warned.
The ANP leader took a jab at rival political leaders, suggesting that while his party would stand firm in the face of adversity, others who make grand speeches will flee when the situation worsened.
