Millions of people in Karachi rely on motorbikes for their daily commute due to the city’s lack of efficient public transport. This large number of bikes contributes to traffic congestion and road safety challenges. Motorcyclists often carry more people than the official limit and do not wear helmets. Many bikers weave in and out of traffic without signaling and violate lane discipline.
The underage or unlicensed riding of motorbikes is also not uncommon. These irregularities often create chaos and can lead to dangerous collisions, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, better awareness on road safety and public education campaigns to better protect motorcyclists and other commuters.
