IG orders strict action against smoky vehicles

LAHORE:IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has instructed the intensification of the crackdown against smog, particularly on highways and in industrial areas, calling for increased action against smog-causing vehicles using Safe City camera. He also directed the Punjab Highway Patrol and Traffic Police to expedite efforts against polluting vehicles on roads.

Dr Usman Anwar further said that Punjab Police is providing full support to the Environment Department in its smog prevention efforts. Immediate action should be taken against vehicles, factories, and field burning contributing to smog across the province, he added.

He instructed field officers to enhance environmental protection measures, ensuring strict enforcement against the burning of crop residue, waste, and the activities of kiln owners responsible for pollution and smog. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, during this year's anti-smog operations, 722 individuals have been arrested and 930 cases have been registered.

Traffic police launches public communication drive to control smog

Lahore Traffic Police Monday launched a public communication drive to control smog in the provincial metropolis. Following the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, the Traffic Police has introduced the official WhatsApp number 03042222089 and have urged people to forward videos and photos of smoky vehicles.

The traffic police authorities will also issue appreciation certificates to citizens, who would play their role in decreasing smog. The CTO Lahore stated action will be taken also against police vehicles if the vehicles were found causing smog.

The traffic police have impounded 6,173 smoke-emitting vehicles in different police stations and issued tickets to 2,200 vehicles.
