Six sent to jail for encroachment
HARIPUR: An administrative officer here on Saturday arrested six pushcart owners and sent them to jail for 5 days on charges of encroachment.
According to a news release from the office of Deputy Commissioner Haripur, the Additional Assistant Commissioner II, Faraz Qureshi had on public complaints conducted a visit to the Rai-e-Ama Road and GPO Road with TMA staff.
During the visit, the administrative officer caught six pushcart owners selling fruits and vegetables at the points banned for any kind of business activity and were causing obstruction in flow of traffic and pedestrians’ movement.
The AAC got the alleged culprits arrested by the accompanying police contingent and after completion of legal proceedings, sent them to Haripur jail for five days under section 8 of the Removal of Encroachment Act 1977. The AAC also confiscated the pushcarts of the detained persons.
The pushcart owners according to AAC were warned ahead of action but they failed to voluntarily remove encroachments.
The local administration had forced dozens of pushcart owners of GPO Road and Rai-e- Ama Road to remove the encroachment a few days back but some of the defiant pushcart owners continued to sell the commodities at the same points.
