This letter refers to the news report ‘OGDCL announces significant gas discovery in Sanghar’ (August 31, 2024). This gas discovery has been executed through in-house expertise and technical support from OGDCL’s joint venture partners, according to the report, and is an appreciable initiative. We need more such activities to meet the country’s ever increasing requirements. Since natural gas resources are shrinking by the day, it would be most appropriate if gas is utilized mainly for export-oriented industries in order to uplift the sinking economy.
Gas should also be supplied to domestic consumers and not CNG stations, which are wasting and burning highly valuable gas even as the resource is being depleted. The incumbent government needs to focus on this area and should pass legislation in the best interests of the country.
