PESHAWAR: No decision has been taken to appoint head of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary after the previous boss was made inspector general of police Balochistan last week.
Normally the new commandant is appointed on the day his predecessor is transferred. Some senior police officers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as cops from other provinces are among the frontrunners for the top slot of the paramilitary force.
“Top officers of the Police Service of Pakistan serving in grade-21 and grade-22 are among those in the running for the top slot of FC. The frontrunners include officers from KP as well as other provinces,” a source said.
They also include a couple of cops who served as IGPs recently while the rest are additional IGs.The source added the decision to appoint the commandant FC was likely in a day or two.
The FC Headquarters is located in Peshawar while its platoons are deployed in Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Karachi as well as different districts of KP to assist the police.
The slot of commandant FC fell vacant when Moazzam Jah Ansari was appointed IGP Balochistan for the second time. He had been leading the FC since February last year. Ansari served as commandant FC twice and also remained IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2021 till February 2023.
