‘Practical steps being taken to make traffic smooth’
LAHORE:Commissioner Lahore Division Zaid Bin Maqsood said that illegal parking and temporary encroachments on roads were two major obstacles in smooth traffic flow in some areas of the city and planning was being done for taking practical steps to remove hurdles in traffic flow.
He said this while presiding over the weekly meeting of the coordination committee for cleanliness, traffic flow and drainage on Monday. The administrative departments of Lahore presented the performance report of the last three months in the meeting. It was briefed that a fine of Rs2 million was imposed during the ongoing operation against temporary encroachments on 10 model roads.
Commissioner Lahore said that Wasa must drain the parks filled with rainwater according to the set deadline. PHA DG while briefing said that 45 more parks were deepened as per the demand of Wasa and now the rainwater will not stand in the nearby areas of the parks.
Commissioner Lahore said that the departments that were lax in responding to civic amenities will have to be held accountable. He directed that the piles of building debris, wherever they were, must be removed by the departments concerned.
The performance of the officers of Lahore District and Lahore Division will be determined on the basis of KPIs, he said. He also said that there must be no delay in providing civic amenities and providing municipal services to the citizens.
LDA, MCL and district administration should take strict action against those who throw construction debris on the roads, he directed. During the briefing, it was informed that containers of LWMC have been placed and the cleaning operation was also ongoing. Commissioner Lahore said that practical measures were being taken according to the clear instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister for the most comprehensive interventions.
