NGO shuts down schools across province
Karachi
Around 130,000 students belonging to underprivileged families would not have a school to go to anymore after the funding of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) running hundreds of schools decided to shut its programme down, it was reported on Tuesday.
Established in 2012 as a pilot project under the Department of International Development (DID), UK, the Education Fund for Sindh (EFS) had to close its schools down after the former decided to discontinue funding for the programme.
Neither the students not parents were informed of the closure.
According to an official of the DID, “The EFS had no choice but to shut its programme down since the DID was the sole funder of the initiative.”
The official said the organisation was aware of the disruption it would cause in the educational prospects of the children and the organisation’s partners.
