PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani awarded Special Operation Group (SOG) police officers and jawans of Buner District on arresting dreaded terrorists of banned Tahrik Taliban Swat (TTS), recovering of huge cache of arms and explosive material in a ceremony held at CPO here Monday.
According to a police statement, some dreaded terrorists of TTS have established their base in far flung and forested terrains of Elum mountains. Last year the terrorist group of AR (Aziz-ur-Rahman) carried out five deadly attacks on local elders, political leadership and the police.
In order to neutralize the terrorists and dismantle their support and logistic network the DPO Buner formed a Special Operation Group (SOG) and tasked to collect information about the terrorists, their hideouts, facilitators and abettors.
The SOG started work in a systematic way under the direct supervision of the DPO with focus on intelligence collection.An intelligence disk was also established so as to monitor the performance of the SOG collectively and individually. The SOG got close to the pockets on militants at Elem mountain and Gokand area of Police station Daggar and launched an intelligence based operation against the militants.
In two separate actions 11 terrorists of TTS were arrested including three key commanders Shereen Zada, Said Bashar and Khapare. The huge cache of arms including heavy guns and explosive recovered from them included 2 RPG-7 (rocket launcher), one each MG-1, HMG, Snifer gun, Bren gun, Kala kov, rifle 8mm, rifle china, rifle 5, rifle 303 bore pistol, 9 SMG, 4 hand grenades, 2000 rounds (different bore), 6 RPG-7 shells and 25 kg explosive along with safety fuse and primacord.
