WAPDA awards Rs5 million to Arshad for Olympic gold
LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) presented a cash award of Rs5 million to its athlete Arshad Nadeem in recognition of his historic performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, where he won Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in athletics.
The award was presented by WAPDA Chairman Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), who is also the Patron-in-Chief of WAPDA Sports Board, at a ceremony at WAPDA Auditorium in WAPDA House.
During the event, cash awards were also given to other WAPDA athletes, including Nooh Dastagir, who won a gold medal at the Strongman Games 2024 in Uzbekistan, as well as Sybil Sohail, Veronika Sohail, and Twinkle Sohail, who secured gold medals at the Classic Powerlifting Championship 2024 in South Africa.
Arshad Nadeem expressed his gratitude to WAPDA for its support in grooming him and other athletes by providing training facilities and employment opportunities. He emphasised that WAPDA’s efforts have played a crucial role in nurturing the country’s sporting talent.
