KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) on Monday opened financial bids for its 150MW solar energy project in Balochistan, following the successful completion of the technical bid evaluation.

The company has expressed optimism about receiving the lowest tariff bid in the country’s renewable energy sector, marking a significant step towards more efficient and cost-effective clean energy production.

The 150MW project is the first phase of KE’s ambitious plan to incorporate 1300MW of renewable energy into its generation mix. This includes additional projects of 270MW in Sindh and a groundbreaking 220MW hybrid solar and wind project. The company aims to increase its renewable energy share to approximately 30 per cent through these initiatives.

Fifteen bidders, comprising both international and local investors, participated in the financial bidding process. KE’s leadership, including CEO Moonis Alvi and Chief Strategy Officer Shahab Qader, were present at the event.

Alvi expressed his satisfaction with the progress made towards sustainability and thanked investors for their commitment to building a stable energy ecosystem. Qader highlighted the event as a testament to Pakistan’s investment potential and KE’s reputation as a reliable partner.

The bidding process for the subsequent projects of 220MW and 270MW will conclude on August 31 and September 30, respectively. Successful bids will undergo regulatory approval before finalization.
