Rally in Swat demands peace restoration

MINGORA: A rally was staged in Tiligram area in the Swat district to demand the restoration of peace.The participants in the rally chanted slogans in favour of the police force and demanded action against the alleged militants. The rally started from the Tiligram Chowki and ended at Tiligram Bazaar.

Swat Qaumi Jirga chief Mukhtiar Khan Yousafzai, Adalat Khan, Sawab Khan, former nazim Charbagh Javed Khan, Nekamal Khan, Syed Mian Sher Ali and a large number of people in Tiligram took part in the rally. The speakers said that the people of Swat demanded the restoration of peace and action against the militants. They questioned the resurgence of the militancy in Swat despite the presence of the security forces.

The speakers said that the people of the entire Swat district would take to the streets if the government did not curb militancy.The Swat Qaumi Jirga, they said, would hold a meeting on August 19 to take stock of the situation and devise the future line of action.

The speakers said that the people of Swat had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration of peace and they did not want the return of militancy. The people were unwilling to face displacement by leaving their homes, they said, urging the government to take action against the militants to establish its writ.
