Twin cities celebrate Jashn-e-Azadi with enthusiasm, solidarity
Rawalpindi:The residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm. Both government and private organizations organized various programs to celebrate the occasion on 14th August.
In Rawalpindi, people participated in rallies and chanted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans. Police officials covered the rallies to ensure safety. A colourful flag hoisting ceremony took place at the Commissioner's office, attended by MNAs, MPAs, government officials, and school students who presented national songs and programs. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak emphasized the solidarity with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) during the celebrations.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at several organizations and colourful programs were arranged at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC), PHA and MCR. In Islamabad, colourful programs were organized at F/9 Park and Shakarparian, with a musical night program at National Ayub Park, featuring performances from famous singers.
Various parks and public areas in Rawalpindi also organized different programs and activities to celebrate the Independence Day. Buildings and roads were illuminated and decorated with green and white buntings, and national flags were hoisted atop buildings of all sizes. Youngsters displayed Pakistani and Azad Jammu and Kashmir flags, chanting slogans in support of Kashmir and against Indian oppression.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at several colleges, and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) organised a flag hoisting ceremony as well. Despite a government ban on such activities, some citizens engaged in intense aerial firing and stunts on motorcycles and cars, leading to apprehensions by the Rawalpindi police.
Majestic Pakistani flags fluttered proudly from the rooftops, and various groups organized ceremonies involving cake-cutting and flag hoisting. The day was marked as a public holiday, leading to the suspension of public transport services.
