SKARDU: Murad Sadpara, who rescues climbers from the heights of mountains, is waiting for rescue himself after he was seriously injured at camp 1 due to a stone hitting his head.
Local climbers will depart from the base camp for camp 1 to rescue him tonight. M. Murad Sadpara is one of the talented and hardworking mountaineers of Pakistan and he was leading the K-2 cleanup expedition this year. He brought the body of Hasan Shagri, who had died last year, from the extreme height of K-2, to the base camp and handed it over to the family. Murad had also brought down the body of an Afghan mountaineer from camp 3 of K-2 last year. He had left for the Broad Peak adventure last week along with a Portuguese woman mountaineer where on his return he was seriously injured due to a stone hitting his head at camp 1 on Saturday. According to the Portuguese mountaineer, the injuries are serious and his chances of survival are limited.
Mountaineers across the country, including Sajid Sadpara and Naila Kayani, have appealed to the government to send helicopters to the base camp. Murad Sadpara, 35, used to spend his time mountain climbing in summers and driving tractors in winters. He has three daughters and a son.
