Baela nominated for global education award

Islamabad:Pakistani educationist Baela Raza Jamil has been named a finalist for the prestigious World Education Medals. The award, recognizing exceptional contributions to education across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, will be presented by T4 Education and HP. The winner will be announced in October. They will be chosen by a jury comprising prominent individuals based on rigorous criteria.

She is renowned for her work with Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi and the Sanjan Nagar School, has been instrumental in improving education access and quality in Pakistan. Her initiatives have impacted millions of children and teachers nationwide.

With a career spanning over three decades, she has led social movements for early childhood education, girls' education, and emergency education. Her advocacy has resulted in significant policy changes and increased education funding in Pakistan. On this occasion, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Academy Award-winning filmmaker congratulated Baela and said that her contributions to Pakistan's educational sector are incredible. "The seeds you have planted in this generation will help create a more inclusive environment for all girls to access education."

Baela and her team have provided scalable learning solutions such as Teaching at the Right Level (TARL) through initiatives like ‘Chalo Parho Barho,’ ConnectEd (a 30-minute mobile phone-based remote tutoring initiative), and Reading Hour through interactive libraries. She also spearheads ‘Siyani Sahelian’ for adolescent out-of-school girls. As the founder of the Pakistan Learning Festivals, she has created an equalizing platform for all children and schools, producing over 140 books for children in multiple languages.
