RAWALPINDI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeemur on Tuesday night announced second phase of party’s movement to press for acceptance of demands, saying that JI sit-in would start moving from existing site on Murree Road, Rawalpindi on August 8 (Thursday).
Addressing protestors at sit-in late Thursday night, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that sit-in would move forward from Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh on Thursday. He did not disclose next destination of sit-in but made it clear that no place like D Chowk and Parliament House was far away from JI leaders, workers and common man.
JI central Naib Ameers Dr. Osama Razi, Liaquat Baloch, Dr. Attaur Rehman and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
He made it clear just written assurances and promises would not work rather they would only believe in notifications and executive orders. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded to immediately revise agreements with IPPs, order IPPs forensic audit and place names of owners of IPPs on the Exit Control List (ECL). Giving further details of protest move, the JI top leader said they would start sit-ins in Lahore on August 11 and in Peshawar on August 12. He also announced to give call countrywide strike on August 14, saying that he had completed consultation with traders and industrialists in this connection. He pointed out Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said there should be no politics on electricity bills. “Do you also want us to do politics false statements, corruption, loot and plunder and friendship with India”, he said. He said did they believe in point-scoring, the JI sit-in had already reached D Chowk and in front of the Parliament House. “We will not budge from our demands and our message to the government is very clear”, he said. Hafiz Naeem reiterated that there would be no compromise on revision of agreements with IPPs and their forensic audit, reduction in tariffs of electricity, reduction of tax burden on salaried class and common man and other demands.
