Cop shot dead over dispute at tea shop
A policeman was killed and two passers-by, including a toddler, were injured on Friday when a man opened fire on the cop during a clash in Landhi. The incident took place at an eatery near Green City Bridge within the limits of the Quaidabad police station.
The deceased cop was identified as 40-year-old Mohammad Akram, son of Muhammad Hussain, and the injured were identified as Sadiq, 40, and two-year-old Shahzeb Shoaib. The Korangi SSP said the deceased man was a head constable serving in the jail police and a resident of Landhi. He was sitting with his friend Zafar at a tea shop when the two started engaging in a bitter argument over something, during which Zafar was infuriated. He took out a pistol and shot Akram four times killing him. Two passers-by were also injured due to the firing who were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
It was later revealed that Zafar was a former policeman and he had some dispute with Akram since long. Akram received bullet wounds in his upper torso which became the cause of his death. Police investigators found spent bullet shells from the crime scene. They said the search for the suspect was under way.
Man kills father-in-law
Within the limits of the Peerabad police station, a 65-year-old man, Gulroz Khan, was shot dead near the Shaheen Hotel in Qasba Colony.
The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. SHO Jamilur Rehman said the man was killed by his son-in-law who fled the scene after the killing. Police have registered a case under the sections 302, 109 and 34 on the complaint of Amir Khan, the son of the deceased.
The complainant told police that his father was shot outside his house on Friday morning while he was returning after offering the Fajr prayers. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Amir said he saw at the door of the house, two people, Islam Gul and Farhan Gul, with arms in their hands and they were both running towards a hill. He claimed that the suspects shot dead his father at the behest of their father Akhtar Gul and his brother Kamran Gul.
