ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has told the PTA lawyer to consult the legal department to take directions on acceptance of payments from a telecom company or not. The court adjourned the hearing till April 24.
The PTA lawyer told the court that DV Com issued it a cheque from the account of the telecom company, which is irrelevant to the agreement. He said the telecom company was not a party to the dispute between the PTA and DV Com.
He said the PTA could not accept any irrelevant payment on the basis of which a party could lay claim to frequency spectrum in the future. He said it could lead to heavy loss to national exchequer.
He said the telecom company and the DV Com are involved in a scam that caused the country a loss of Rs10 billion and this issue is already hot in the media. It may be mentioned here that a company of Aqeel Karim Dhedhi has been a defaulter for 10 years and now it is trying to acquire frequency spectrum with the help of the telecom company at 10-year-old rates.
The petitioner, a former employee of the telecom company, Qaisar Khan told court that the telecom company and the DV Com had been defaulters in the past and their agreements had been dubious. He said the two entities are now out to cause huge losses to the national exchequer.
He told the court that the two entities are defaulters facing cases at different level. On his appeal, the court told the PTA to take a decision as per law. NAB has not taken any action on this issue so far.
