PTI media coordinator produced in ATC after IHC takes up his ‘abduction’ case

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra Monday granted police seven-day physical remand of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) International Media Coordinator (IMC) Ahmad Waqas Janjua, who was taken away
from his house by some plainclothes men at 4am on July 20. As per the first information report (FIR), registered on a complaint of Janjua’s wife at Humak Police Station Islamabad, 20 armed men, with their faces covered with masks, kidnapped her husband from DHA-II along with his laptop, a cell-phone and other devices. She had requested the police to recover her husband.
On Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took up for hearing petition, filed by the PTI coordinator’s wife for recovery of her ‘abducted’ husband. Later, the Islamabad police disclosed the arrest of Janjua under serious allegations.
According to a statement submitted by the investigating officer in the court, explosive material was recovered from Ahmed Janjua at the time of his arrest. He was also accused of having connections with banned organisations. Citing gravity of the accusations, the investigating officer requested the court to grant 15-day physical remand of the accused for further investigation and recovery of additional evidence.
The ATC judge approved a seven-day physical remand of Ahmed Janjua and ordered that he should be presented in the court again on July 29. The CCTV footage showed that Ahmed Waqas Janjua was taken away by plainclothesmen at 4am from his house in Islamabad.
