Shipping companies/agents resume weekend operations
KARACHI: Shipping companies and agents in Karachi have begun reopening their offices, extending their operational hours to include Saturdays. This decision follows a recent visit by the prime minister of Pakistan to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT).
According to a statement from the KPT, trade bodies raised concerns during the PM’s visit about delays in issuing delivery orders due to shipping company offices being closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The statement added that trade bodies, including customs clearing agents, highly appreciate this decision and its swift implementation. They anticipate a significant reduction in costs associated with delays and detention charges previously levied by shipping companies.
The statement concluded by expressing the gratitude of the trade bodies to the prime minister of Pakistan, the federal secretary of maritime affairs, and the KPT management.
