‘Sindh govt gives equal funds to all TMCs of Karachi’

The mechanism for transferring funds to all the 25 towns of Karachi has been kept uniform, so there can be no discrimination in the allocation of funds to the towns, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad said on Friday.

Murad was speaking at the concluding training session of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) officers with regard to the town municipal corporations’ (TMCs) finances, development plan, procurement, taxation and social safeguard.

He said the Sindh government has released equal funds to all the TMCs of the city in the financial budget, irrespective of their affiliation with any political party. He also said the Pakistan People Party is in contact with all the political parties, and that is the reason why the cleanliness drives in the city were performed in an appropriate manner during and after Eidul Azha.

The training sessions for KMC officers were organized by the World Bank, the Competitive and Liveable City of Karachi project, and Smart Researchers at the City Institute of Image Management. KMC officers of all the 25 TMCs were trained as regards finance, development plan, procurement, taxation and social safeguard.

Former Local Fund Audit director Arif Raza Khan, Smart Researchers Project Manager Dr Manzoor Hussain Memon, National Institute of Management Staff Director Waqar Saleem Baig and SM Ali Jaffery Advocate briefed the participants on how schemes can be prepared under the WB’s guidelines and rules, and how preferential schemes can be approved. Later, Dr Memon as well as Smart Researchers directors Aminullah Khan and Khurrum Ahmed presented certificates to the participants of the training sessions.
