Mind the tone

The assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump can be seen as a failure of America’s security and intelligence agencies. Despite being equipped with the latest in surveillance systems and technologies, an assassin was allowed to come close enough to graze Trump’s ear with a bullet. Though it is conceivable that this attempt on his life might actually boost Trump’s chances in the upcoming US presidential elections, the troubling nature of this attack should not be minimized. It serves as a grim reminder for politicians the world over to refrain from hate-mongering, charged insults and other toxic rhetoric as it opens the door for extremists and violence in politics.
