Sindh to help local bodies rid Karachi of encroachments, says Nasir
Sindh Minister for Energy Development and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the provincial government would fully cooperate with the local bodies in making Karachi an encroachment-free, clean and beautiful city.
Shah held a meeting on the elimination of encroachments on the roads and green belts of the city. He said encroachments of any kind would not be allowed at all, adding that if any negligence is demonstrated in the city, strict action would be taken against the officers concerned.
He also said that some people do not want to see the city become beautiful and prosperous. Encroachments on any footpath, green belt or service road will not be allowed at all, he added. He lamented that some private offices have placed their generators on the footpaths.
He pointed out that the chief minister is taking several steps to turn Karachi into an attractive city. He said the CM has given directions to the city’s mayor and commissioner for the complete elimination of encroachments.
He also said the deputy commissioners and police officials would fully cooperate in removing these encroachments. The process of removing encroachments in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other divisional headquarters will be accelerated, and all parking plazas will be made functional, he added.
The minister said that illegal parking or parking on roads would not be allowed. He said the Sindh Building Control Authority would take action against builders committing violations, adding that the city would be kept clean under a regular strategy.
He also said town and cantonment boards should resolve the matter of their jurisdictions, adding that hoardings would not be installed without the permission of the municipal commissioner.
Shah stressed that this city is ours, so we would treat it with love and make it beautiful. He also mentioned that the CM has invited the spiritual leader of the Bohra community to revisit Karachi next year.
