CTD arrests two more ‘TTP militants’ in Sohrab Goth
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has intensified its operations throughout the city in response to the martyrdom of DSP Ali Raza and potential terrorism threats during Muharram. The CTD on Friday claimed to have arrested two more members of a banned militant outfit in Sohrab Goth.
The CTD said their Terror Financing Investigation Unit arrested two men associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) Hafiz Gul Bahadur group in the Jhanjhal Goth area. They have been identified as Abu Zar and Yaqoob Mehsud.
Officials said that both suspects were in contact with their leaders in Afghanistan through a social media website and had recently arrived in Karachi from Waziristan.
The suspects were allegedly involved in fundraising for their organisation, and Rs15,000 was recovered from them. The CTD has filed a case against the suspects and further investigations is under way.
Earlier, the CTD had thwarted a terrorism plot to attack a Muharram procession in Orangi Town by apprehending a suspect associated with the TTP.
