Thoughtless speeding bikers make commuters’ lives miserable
Rawalpindi:Daily we see heavy vehicles trying to outrun each other while travelling a few inches apart near Koral Chowk and bikers trying to get past them, only to brake like hell when they realize they cannot see a thing just as they overtake the trucks.
“Speeding biker has no regard for his own life or that of anyone else around him. Do not get me wrong because I like bikers as I have been on a bike on the roads most of my life. We all do stupid things occasionally and I’m no exception to that, nevertheless, I don’t think I’ve ever run precariously as a thoughtless person,” says Nasir Asghar, from Shaheen Town.
“On a busy Saddar street, I observed a biker get the bike through the gaps and weave in and out very rapidly without considering the prospect that any car can hit him if it decides to change lanes just as he squeezes past. Many bikers are lucky to be alive so far,” says Mukhtar Ali, from Tench Bhatta.
“We are all nut cases at a young age. Being immature, we cannot understand that losing a bit of skin hurts. I am always looking out for bikes in my mirrors and have never had one pass me without me seeing it first. It’ll always happen and we have to keep an eye out for these people and save them,” says Mazahir Ali, a pharmacist.
“Have you noticed bike dealers’ posters going up at the side of the road? Well, wouldn’t it be a much better idea to think of a sign for the crazy bike riders aimed at telling them that if they don’t slow down and irresponsibly ride their bikes they would end up splattered across the road,” suggests Muhammad Qasim.
“The locality of the city I live in has bikers, who most of the time drive like mad guys. I saw one car trying to drive completely boxed in by bikers. I think being in large groups made them all go a bit wild,” says Baqir Hussain.
“I drive my bike as safely as I can. Anyone who does not is waiting for death. Are bikers invisible to speed cameras,” questions Sajjad Ali, an artist. “I don’t have a problem with bikers, I respect them and they respect me. I mean if I’m on a road and have a biker coming from behind, I’ll move over somewhat to let him get past and I always receive a thankful gesture in return,” says Reza Asad, a trader.
Engineer Muntazir Mahdi says, “I am always nervous about bikers sneaking up behind me and usually I come across several such troublemakers on any given road. The bikers should be instructed that it’s risky to ride like a mad guy.”
