NAB says presidential immunity has ended; accountability court summons PPP co-chairman to appear in person on 27th

RAWALPINDI: The Accountability Court (AC) in Rawalpindi on Friday issued a notice to former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, in the assets reference case after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) pleaded the court to reopen the case.
NAB Prosecutor Raja Khurram Ejaz contended before the Accountability Judge Raja Akhlaq Hussain since the presidential immunity against Asif Ali Zardari had expired, the reference against him might be reopened.
The court, while accepting the plea, issued a notice to the former president to appear in person before the court on April 27.The assets reference against Asif Ali Zardari and the late Benazir Bhutto was filed during the tenure of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in 2001.
In 2010, the hearing into the reference case was deferred for an indefinite period after Asif Ali Zardari became the president of the country.Benazir Bhutto’s name was also dropped from the reference after her death.
