US consul general seeks collaboration on welfare projects in Punjab
Hawkins extend an invitation to the Punjab government to support various social projects in Punjab
LAHORE: US Consul General Lahore Kristin K. Hawkins visited the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal office in Lahore, where she held a meeting with Sohail Shaukat Butt, the Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the Pakistani and US governments in the realm of social welfare.
During the discussion, Hawkins extended an invitation to the Punjab government to support various social projects in Punjab.
Shaukat Butt outlined the government’s extensive efforts aimed at public welfare and highlighted key initiatives. Consul General Hawkins commended the Chief Minister of Punjab for the introduction of the Himmat Card, an initiative designed to provide financial support to deserving individuals.
Discussions also covered plans for healthcare, education, and employment support. The US Consul General expressed readiness to take special measures to assist the government in these areas.
Minister Bait-ul-Maal detailed the government’s efforts towards social and economic stability, including special programmes for vulnerable groups.
He emphasised the importance of infrastructure development and making buildings accessible for disabled individuals, noting that these are top priorities. He also announced the establishment of additional special centres for women’s protection, underscoring Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s dedication to the rehabilitation and safety of women.
The Provincial Minister stressed the importance of NGOs’ role in social welfare projects, confirmed that FATF protocols are being followed, and highlighted promoting harmony among different religions. In the end, the Minister reiterated the commitment of the Punjab government, under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz, to social harmony and brotherhood. He expressed his commitment to the rights of transgender people and announced the launch of special programmes for the rehabilitation of drug addicts.
