Factory worker shot dead for resisting mugging bid in Baldia Town
A factory worker was killed on Friday during a mugging bid in Baldia Town. Karachi has witnessed a significant increase in killings during street crime this year with 78 citizens so far murdered for putting up resistance during muggings.
The incident on Friday occurred in the Mawach Goth area of Baldia Town where a 22-year-old factor worker, Sarwar, son of Anwar, had come out in the street due to power outage in the factory and was using his mobile phone when two armed robbers on a motorcycle attempted to rob him.
As the youth offered resistance, they shot him dead and fled with his mobile phone and cash. Sarwar hailed from Bahawalnagar and had been working at the thread factory for six years. He was the second among nine siblings.
Police obtained CCTV footage of the incident that showed two armed men on a motorcycle shooting the youth.
Police said they were trying to identify the culprits with the help of the footage.
Incidents of killings of innocent persons like this highlight the government and law enforcer’s failure to apprehend street criminals.
Just two days ago, a man was killed in the Chakra Goth area in Korangi and his son injured by two criminals during a robbery bid at an LPG shop. The injured son managed to snatch a pistol from the robbers and shot the assailants, wounding them.
The two robbers were identified as Qadeer and Ehtisham. They initially fled the scene but were later arrested at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they had gone for treatment of their injuries.
Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, a man was killed over unexplained reasons in the Landhi area.
The 32-year-old man, identified as Shabbir, son of Sabir Shah, was shot dead by firing of unidentified suspects near the Rehmania Masjid in the Muzaffarabad area of Landhi within the limits of the Quaidabad police station.
Following the firing, police and rescue workers reached the scene and transported the casualty to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police said the case was being investigated from various angles.
